Cat Whisker Crystal Radio
The Cat Whisker Crystal Radio
L. Edgar Otto May 10, 2013
Before transistors in the night whispers of far away places
double my pleasure double mint gum top forty news weather and sports
Whispers as soft as a butterflies wing touching my ear lobes
awaking to magic that comes from wires, from deep outside a box
The stars unfolding flowers double winged, tuning, unfolding my mind
binary most of them as the world once seemed back when Williams and Einstein
Died and Mars was close, those crystallized away my childhood ghosts
no batteries, but no power supply, I find the springs holding my mattress
A good ariel, ahh radio Netherlands and the beats of the Cannibal Sea
Tales before they became pictures, before dramas and sitcoms on TV
mono so have to change ears on my pillow, the ghost stories always more
Scary on one side and quieter on the other, brain side detecting specters
or the beep as passes over a fellow traveler blinking Telstar like in wobbles
I thought there would never be or match again such music

You have captured so well all we have lost in the last decades, and so slowly, we hardly noticed the passing of real entertainment.
ReplyDeletelove this, it tweaks much lying dormant in the back of my brain. very nice!
ReplyDeleteEdgar, this is brilliant. It's so true that TV killed the fun of radio... especially videos. I have my own mental pictures of Johnny Mathis' "Chances Are" and the early Beatle songs... now your brain gets "hard-wired" with pictures of someone else's creation.
ReplyDeleteJust notices your sidebar "about me." Thank you for your service. I lobby members of Congress on veterans' issues. They don't understand how I can be a pacifist and support the troops. I tell them you don't have to put on a uniform to respect the person who does. My beef is always with the upper echelon decision makers, who punch buttons and create wars, then wait for somebody else's kid to fight them. Hope the civilian life looks better for you, and SOON! I'm an old leftie... Amy
